nanopod: Hybrid Studio has been offering workshops and courses in Toronto since 2003.
Looking to work with metal, and/or create beautiful sculptural pieces in glass? Or perhaps you want to up your game?
nanopod: Hybrid Studio offers workshops and courses in working with metal and glass. Kiln and torch-fired enamel, lost wax casting in bronze, Sterling silver and gold, or even lost wax casting glass! Fusing workshops, and ring band workshops.

8 week Metal + Glass (Next course starts up Monday, September 22nd) 

Form • Fabricate • Cast • Fuse

Learn basic Goldsmithing + Lost wax glass casting 

6:30-9:30pm, 8 weeks, 1 evening per week Monday evenings
$280 per person, 6 people max, 3 people min. $100 deposit necessary to hold space.
evening #1: First evening: working with copper-safety, drilling, sawing, fold-forming.
evening #2: Making a band ring out of silver (stamp, hammer finish, roller print, etc.)
evening #3: working with wax create pieces w/the lost wax technique- to be cast in Sterling, Brass or Gold.
evening #4: Finishing wax projects, cleaning up castings> cuttlebone casting (finish up models)
evening #5: NEW: Glass Casting- basic/simple mould making and casting a glass object to use in your jewelry!
evening #6: bezel settings and tab setting for cabochon stones and your glass work. Clean-up glass & metal castings
evening #7: Enameling copper projects, forming, how to make your own findings.
evening #8: finish up projects No experience necessary! 
Copper, wax, glass, and some sterling silver are supplied. A list of local suppliers is included.

6:30-10pm, 1 evening per week, Thursday evenings  October 9th, 12 weeks- 3 student minimum, 5 max. $180pp + $250 lab & materials fee**    

Demonstrations in fold forming, etching (copper & silver), and hollow forms (making silhouette dies), electroplating, Lost Wax casting and fusing glass small scale items & Sterling settings. This course gives students hands on experience manipulating metal, electroforming, and embellishing metal, while sharpening soldering and fabrication skills working on personal projects. Students will work together and independently on their projects.
Starting out with an introduction on techniques covered, expectations, design considerations, and ends with students finishing off fold formed samples/pieces, an etched hollow form, electroforming organic/inorganic objects, setting up & casting for lost wax, fusing a small glass colour bar*, and unusual settings with Sterling silver.

Fast paced, students need to show up ready for action! Materials fee includes: a 3″x 3″ piece of 16 gauge Sterling silver plate, 16 gauge 12″x 6″ copper, 2 ounces of Sterling silver casting grain, 1 gross of 3/0, 1/0, & 1 doz spiral saw blades. 3″x4″ plexiglass, Silver solder, flux, wax and expendables necessary for (copper) electroforming, casting and glass for fusing.              Use of tools and equipment.  Beginners welcome!

Glass Fusing, Casting & Flame-working classes in Toronto

Casting glass uses the Lost Wax process– which is very similar to Lost wax casting metal. Work with beautiful transparent Gaffer crystal, and Bullseye glass!  Glass casting workshop July, 25th start/intro 6:30-9:30pm then Saturday & Sunday July 26/27 and Sat/Sun August 2/3 10am to 5pm 5 Student max., 3 student min. $180pp + $200 lab & materials fee** Glass casting workshop (small to medium scale objects) Learn the basics of glass casting. Up-cycle your wine or beer bottles into a beautiful work of art! Students will learn how to make molds of existing objects using Alginate, as well as model new ones from clay and wax. No experience necessary!

History is discussed, glass formulas, annealing cycles, glass suppliers/makers, and more! Create your own glass beads. All materials included*! No experience necessary! *Each student receives a special glass kit.

Nano-News

Dear nano-peeps

Due to an amazing turn of events the last 8 week metal + glass course will run starting Monday April 28th (March courses have almost filled) Studio courses will resume in the Fall TBA.

Open Studio will continue and run Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons throughout the year, by booked appointment only.
If you’re interested in purchasing Open Studio time or using what you have please, email me with your interests, questions, etc.
